FAQ's

Q. What is the difference between a $KY digibox working in 'FreeSat from $KY' mode, and a Humax freesat receiver?

With a $KY Digibox you have the option of later taking out a $KY subscription and getting $KY sport/movies etc. A $KY Digibox has a RF outlet, which means you can run a second cabled remote TV , showing the same pictures as the TV in the room where the $KY Digibox is. You can even get a $KY Link, and remotely control the Digibox from the other room. A $KY Digibox will not let you watch the free HD channels for free. A $KY+ Digibox will not let you record channels for free, you must have a subscription of some sort. The PACE 2600C1 $KY Digibox is the best receiver of all time, for reception of UK TV in fringe reception areas, like Spain.
With a Humax foxsat freesat receiver, you will never be able to receive the $KY pay channels. The Humax foxsat does not have a RF outlet. The Humax does let you watch the free HD (high definition) channels for free. The Humax HDR recording model allows you to record programs, very much like the $KY+ system, but does require two feeds from the dish (as does a $KY+ Digibox), to work properly.

Q. I want a new white Freesat from $KY viewing card, how do I get one?

Telephone $KY TV on 08442 410595, remember that these cards are not supposed to be used in Spain, so please get somebody with a UK address to order one for you (ringing from a UK phone). They do not need to be a $KY customer to order one. The price of the card is £20. When they order the card, tell them to tell $KY that they already have the equipment and they just need the card, and do not tell $KY the card is destined for Spain.

Q. I have a $KY viewing card (yellow house on blue background) to get the free channels only, but I am getting a message up on my screen saying I need to renew the card, to continue viewing my channels?

Simply remove the viewing card from the receiver, it will work just fine without a card (although the default regional programming may change). You get almost every channel that the card gave you, including Channel5 etc, which went free to air recently.

Q. I am getting a funny picture or no picture and/or sound at all?

If the colours are incorrect or you are getting no picture and/or sound at all, then the problem is nearly always that your SCART lead has come out slightly from the socket on the back of the TV or the Receiver.

Q. The shape of peoples heads on the screen are out of proportion?

If the shape of peoples heads in the picture are wrong, then you most probably have the "Picture Settings" incorrect, in the set-up menu of the receiver. On a $KY Digibox, press, services, system set-up, picture settings, picture format. Change picture format so that is shows 4:3 if you have an old non wide-screen TV or select 16:9 if you have a wide screen TV.

Q. What is the difference between "Free To View" and "Free To Air" channels?

Free To View (FTV) channels, still need a card to view them, but you don't have to pay a subscription, Free To Air (FTA) does not need a card to view them nor a subscription.

Q. All my channels work except Channel 4 + 1, why?

It has been reported on some technical web sites, that people are having reception problems with Channel 4 + 1, the problem appears to be Cordless telephones operating on the DECT system, these are interfering with this channel. To see if this is correct in your case, remove the power from any such equipment, and see if that cures disappears. If it does, most of these items allow you to change the DECT channel they are operating on, doing so should solve your problem.

Q. I bought a great big "Faultec Star" dish from Maplains, but I cannot get good reception, why?

Any Petalised dish (one made up from pressed steel sections and bolted together, to form one big dish) will never give good reception results. Every part of the dish must be very closely focused onto the centre of the LNB, so a well engineered 1 piece, single pressing dish is what is required, these cheap models will not work, save your money.
